Hedgehogs:

In Hedgehogs this week, the children have been busy exploring our allotment. The children have been walking around looking for different types of plants they could spot in the planting beds. The children are becoming increasingly interested in different aspects of gardening - they are even beginning to offer help with weeding. The adults have been modelling to the children how to correctly pull out a weed. The children have really enjoyed counting the amount of leaves there are on each of the weeds. Inside the room, the children have requested to engage in a cutting activity at the creative table. With adult supervision, the children showed fantastic focus in practising their fine motor skills. They have been building their hand and finger strength to be able to push the scissors through the paper. To further build their strength, the children have been engrossed in tummy time mark making activities. The adults set out large pieces of paper on the floor to help encourage building of their arm and shoulder strength. We have wonderful conversations around the different ways we can make marks. The children tried hard to copy and draw some designs on their top like spiderman, ice creams, flowers and rainbows.
