Hedgehogs blog:

In Hedgehogs this week, we have focused our learning on introducing basic shapes to the children. Our key words have been: circle, square and triangle. We took our learning outside! We have been collecting pencil size twigs in the woods and around the sensory garden. Then, we used these materials to stick into our newly learnt shapes. It was wonderful to see the children using glue spreaders to spread their glue in the correct place before choosing the right size twig to make the shape they needed. Whilst in the playground, the children have been using their imaginations as part of roleplay. The children have been buying and selling delicious ice creams with rainbow sprinkles and chocolate flakes on the top. To enhance their learning, the adults have given the children the opportunity to explore this further in a sensory tray. We made some pretend ice cream using tissues and different coloured food colourings. The children put these into ice cream cones before selling. The children happily enjoyed exploring the textures whilst they filed and emptied their cones.
