Diwali Celebrations:

Across the centre, we have begun our Diwali celebrations. We have enjoyed bringing further light and joy into our centre through the brightest of colours and the exploration of light. The children have experienced the celebration of Diwali in a range of different ways. We hope that you will enjoy an insight into what our wonderful children in the centre have experienced.

Kits have loved our Diwali celebrations. We began our day with some wonderful sensory exploration. Mary had trapped some of our animals! These animals were encased within jelly. We also noticed that the jelly had been wrapped in punchunella. This meant that as we raised the jelly to the light, it shone beautifully and made patterns on the room’s floor. Next, we experienced a range of different music styles as the adults flew their scarves around us. We ended our celebrations with an art activity. We used our sticking skills to collage our own creation.

In Rabbits, we spent time exploring our senses in a range of different Diwali activities. We noticed that some special patterns had been created and sand was carefully placed on top. The children noticed that if they slammed their hands down on the tuff tray, the sand’s colours would mix and it would fly high into the sky. The children laughed and smiled with the utmost excitement!

As part of their Diwali celebrations in Hedgehogs Room, we have explored a range of different activities. We began our day by colour mixing. We used shaving foam to do this! We enjoyed swirling the different colours together to see which new colours we would make. Next, we focused on Mehndi patterns. We discussed what these were and how we could recreate them with different tools and resources. The children showed fantastic concentration levels as they copying the patterns. We practised our sticking skills by making our own firework pictures with sequins. Our fine motor skills were developed by using our pinchy grip to individually select each sequin. Then, we made our own brightly coloured smoothies to enjoy! We chopped our own fruit before carefully selecting which we’d like to use - these were delicious!

Foxes room have been immersed in all things Diwali! We began our day in the Creative Area where Hannah taught us how to mould, shape and adapt clay. We used our hands to warm the clay before moulding them to create our individual Diva lamps. We are going to paint and decorate these once they are dry. Next, we recycled our old CDs! We used our sticking skills to place and press our sequins into place. These will hang beautifully within our room. Finally, we made our way outside for some mark making. We used our large chalks to copy traditional patterns that were placed along the floor.
