The woodland nursery on the edge of the city

General Information

Our Nursery

All of our play rooms are large, light and airy with direct access to the gardens. Children have access to the outside throughout the day as well as having the opportunity to take part in growing fruit, vegetables and plants in our allotment and visiting our woodland for OWL sessions.

We have our own soft room, with light show and ball pit which is great for relaxation and developing physical skills.

We have our own hall which we use for lunch times for children aged 3 – 4 years in preparation for going to school. We also use the hall for large indoor activities such as parachute games. A variety of community groups hire our hall to run activities for children and families.

Rabbits Room

Rabbits is our baby room, for children aged 3 months to 2 years old. We have a large play room with direct access to our own garden. Children from Rabbits also visit our other gardens, allotment and woodland throughout the week. Rabbits has a separate meal room so the baby’s can develop their social skills and independence together with their key person in a familiar environment. We have a separate sleep room and children have a regular cot for their naps. We work together with parents to provide as much consistency as possible between home and nursery. There are also 2 cosy areas where we have developed a sensory area with light show and dedicated craft area.

Hedgehogs Room

Children in hedgehogs are 2 – 3 years old. The Hedgehogs base is where our 2 to 3 year olds are supported to reach their full potential. We have a large airy room with access to an outdoor play space and a wooded area, the base routine is focussed on free flow- allowing children to select their own activities based around their individual interests. We spend a significant amount of time exploring the woods, tending to the vegetables in our allotment and exercising our physical skills using the garden equipment and we make the most of any opportunity to be outside whatever the weather. Throughout the day children are provided with a wide range of activities which promote their learning by allowing them to explore a variety of different resources and tasks. Staff encourage children to develop independence in a number of ways including selecting their own resources for activities, helping to serve their own meals and snacks and joining in with other tasks such as watering the plants.

Foxes Room

Children aged 3-4 years Children in Foxes and Badgers Rooms are the 3-4 year old pre-school children. They are supported by experienced teachers and practitioners who work with the children within the EYFS framework. We believe a child deserves the best possible start to their education within a safe, secure, and nurturing environment in which children will flourish and feel confident to learn.  We recognise the importance of individuality, responsibility, and the sense of community. We have two well equipped rooms with access to two large outdoor areas, a woodland and allotment area where all children are encouraged to learn new skills and experiences. Our routine is flexible; we begin the day with a whole room group time to sing “Hello” to everyone and share any news or celebrate birthdays or festivals. After this, all children have a small group time with their Key Person which focuses on a specific area of the EYFS according to the group’s needs and they then go into free-flow learning, both indoors and outdoors. Children are also supported to explore the woodland area through our own woodland learning programme, developing important outdoor skills. We also offer children participation in yoga, music and movement, and use of our soft play room. We foster the love of learning through exploration, fun and challenge in a safe place, where all children are welcomed, valued, and supported from their unique starting point. We strive to nurture positive relationships with parents, professionals and agencies to best meet the needs of our children.
