Hardmoor EYC is delighted to announce its partnership with City Catering, for the on-site provision of freshly cooked nutritious meals for children attending our Centre.

City Catering was one of several bidders for the contract, and has been selected by Governors as an excellent fit with our ethos, values, and standards at Hardmoor.  As you know, our partnership started on 7th December, and we are delighted that City Catering hired our current ‘temporary’ cook, Rudolph Botes, to continue preparing our meals on site on a permanent basis.

City Catering serves meals in 52 schools and nurseries in Southampton, and is a proudly accredited Food for Life caterer; the Soil Association bronze award that City Catering holds means you can trust that:

Free from:
Our meals are free from controversial additives, sweeteners, colouring, and artificial trans fats

At least 75% of our meals are freshly prepared on site or in a local kitchen

We never use fish on the Marine Conservation Society ‘fish to avoid’ list

British Farm Assured:

We serve meat that meets UK Animal Welfare standards; and our pork and pork sausages are
Freedom Foods.

Our menus are designed to make the best use of local seasonal ingredients – like free-range eggs from Fluffetts Farm, Fordingbridge.

The company sources seasonal ingredients that can be produced outdoors in the UK at that time of year. Menus are seasonal, too, designed to make the best use of what’s fresh and in season locally.  We will also be able to continue using produce from our kitchen garden, wherever possible.

City Catering operates a nut-free kitchen, and is fully set up to provide allergy- and medically-adjusted menus for children with special dietary requirements. Cultural dietary needs are also met, alongside preferences such as vegan and vegetarian diets.

The Centre’s standard menu will be added to City Catering’s Lunchero app, which is free to download iOS and Android. The app allows parents and staff to see ‘what’s for lunch’ from a mobile device. It’s free to use and advert free.

The charity holds the Hyperactive Children’s Support Group award for excellence, which requires an annual audit of all product ingredients; the award means meals are free from additives that have been found to trigger problematic behaviour and poor concentration in some children.

City Catering is a trusted new partner for our catering provision, and the contract award will allow us to innovate our menus, recipes, and approach to food generally at Hardmoor.

We are also delighted that our new catering provider is a charity – it exists to make a tangible nutritional difference in people’s lives, and while it is a professional and commercially run organisation, it is driven by a strong desire to make a real and sustainable difference for communities, children, and vulnerable adults in Southampton.
